On November 3, 2020, Shelly L. Bell, made history by being the first African American elected to the position of Committeewoman in Montgomery Township, New Jersey

Regarding the township, she actively supported and participated in current activities to fight anti-Black racism, including a formal resolution denouncing all forms of prejudice and racial violence and designating racism as a public health emergency. Montgomery Township celebrated Juneteenth under her direction.

Shelly formerly worked as Governor Phil Murphy’s regional political director, and she was instrumental in his reelection to a second term. Also served as Assemblyman Roy Freiman’s, Chief of Staff for the 16th Legislative District.
